On November 7th, 8th, and 9th…I attended the ABC (Association of Bridal Consultants) National Conference in an effort to learn who I need to know to set up a national speaking opportunity for next year as well as who to get in touch with about speaking for their local chapters during my upcoming book promo tour.
Elisabeth Scott Daley (who is also an Accredited Bridal Consultant™…1 of only about 50 in the country) helped me make some great connections and she also took some great promo photographs of me with fellow Author, Sasha Souza (who is also a Master Bridal Consultant™…1 of only about 60 in the country), and fellow Author and TV Show Host, David Tutera. We also captured video of David Tutera talking with me about the wedding he and I did together on October 2nd. That episode of “My Fair Wedding” is tentatively set to air on January 16th, 2011.
If I remember correctly, my good friend Neal Howard suggested taking a photo with my fellow authors featuring us reading each other’s books. Thanks for the great idea Neal!
I gave a signed copy of TBWRE to Kim Horn (she’s also a Master Bridal Consultant™) who produced the national conference and called me following the show to schedule a seminar for her local ABC Arizona Chapter on January 10th following Will Hegarty’s show Bridal Fashion Debut…and she also gave me some helpful pointers for landing a speaking slot for next year’s national show in Baltimore, MD. Kim produced the National Conference this year and she really did a tremendous job!
I also gave a signed copy of TBWRE to Carol Carroll (she’s the Director Membership Records for ABC) who oversees the books that get promoted in the ABC’s online bookstore and at their shows.
Liz and I were both surprised by how many ABC members wanted to stop me and take a picture with me while I was there. They were very surprised to see me just attending…but by doing so I’m hoping that I made a pretty positive impression with the powers that be at ABC.
I also ran into Gayle O’Donnell who used to carry my book in her bridal boutique in Seattle. She just happens to be good friends with Preston Bailey and so I mailed her a signed copy of TBWRE for herself and included a signed copy for Preston which she mailed out to him for me. Once we see how he likes the new version, we will look at sending him a signed copy for his good friend, Oprah Winfrey! Gayle also just published a fantastic blog article about TBWRE that really blew me away. You can check it out here…
On November 6th, Elisabeth Scott Daley, one of my Board Members for the W.E.D.Guild™ and the first female to earn the title of Wedding Entertainment Director™, assisted me as I entertained for Will Hegarty’s Daughter’s Wedding Ceremony & Reception in Phoenix, AZ.
Don’t know who Will Hegarty is? Here is the byline he graciously wrote for the back of TBWRE.
“Peter Merry’s innovative ideas have earned him recognition as the wedding industry expert on creating fun reception celebrations. As a direct result, he was the only wedding entertainment professional we considered hiring for our daughter’s wedding reception.”
The pressure was on…I had to deliver and they packed the agenda to the max with tons of fun and creative interactive moments. We pulled it off with flying colors and Liz talked Will into doing a video testimonial about me afterwards that was just priceless.
Not only does Will Hegarty produce the Wedding MBA show in Las Vegas (which I am certain I will be speaking at once again in September of 2011) but he also produces the largest Bridal Show in the country in Phoenix, AZ called Bridal Fashion Debut. His show is attended by over 4,000 brides in 2 days and TBWRE will be getting promoted with post-cards in the bags, presentations before the fashion shows, and a booth on January 8th & 9th. I’ll be trying to line up some local TV interviews before the show to promote the book’s presence there as well.
This photo below was taken by John Goolsby, with Godfather Films, who was shooting the video footage at the wedding.
John’s talented team of video editors put together a susprise same day edit highlight video that was shown to the guests about 30 minutes before the reception concluded…and as they were leaving each guest was given their very own copy of this video on DVD to take home with them.
And yes…Liz gave me a solid performance critique after we were all done. Had trouble walking for the next couple of days. 😉
The truth is, with Liz’ help, I was able to do one of the best Grand Entrances of my career. She had 41 sound cues to hit following along with my scripted introductions of the Parents and Wedding Party members…and she was flawless! Thanks again for your invaluable assistance Liz!
On November 3rd, I presented a seminar for the WPIC (Wedding Planning Institute of Canada) at their national conference in the Bahamas! I took two cases of TBWRE with me and wound up selling out in record time and then I sold another half case in orders for signed copies of TBWRE which I shipped when I got back home.
He took questions at the end of of his talk and when I asked him to define to the role of the Master of Ceremonies…he said it was the most important component of all because the MC is in charge of the TIMING! Brilliant answer I thought.
I am thrilled with the scope and detail of the commentary written by Bobbye Middendorf and could not be more excited about getting such a glowing review.

The publisher obviously liked the original photos…but they have also given the book a fresh new look.
When I get approval…I will post images of the new back cover and some sneak peeks of the inside of the book as well.
